If you're planning an outdoor secular wedding ceremony bathed in sunlight or at dusk, don't hesitate to take advantage of what nature has to offer. If your chosen venue has a beautiful tree-lined avenue or a majestic tree, make it the centerpiece of your ceremony décor. Here are a few ideas to inspire you :
-
Natural : Your tree, if it's an ancient oak or cedar, for example, can be beautiful on its own, with the color of its trunk or foliage changing with the seasons. Enhance its natural beauty rather than covering it up. For example, hang a long, flowing curtain from a high branch, leaving some length on both sides, place a few flowers and candlesticks on the ground, and hang a beautiful antique chandelier overhead for a simple yet effective decoration.
-
Say it with flowers : Let pretty garlands of flowers with fresh blooms sway in the breeze along the branches like a curtain, or let them cascade down the trunk. Create a gradient of shades with pretty bouquets of different shapes and sizes, hung here and there in various containers such as hanging globe vases adorned with a few flowers.
-
Paper Flowers : DIY (Do It Yourself) is making a comeback. Play with colors and textures, and your decorations are sure to make a statement, even on a budget. Imagine a swarm of tiny paper butterflies fluttering around the trunk, or garlands of colorful hearts hanging from the branches behind you, creating your own unique ceremony space. And why not add little origami hens or beautiful, colorful rosettes in all shapes and sizes? You can also embellish your natural ceremony arch with simple Chinese lanterns in various colors and sizes, or paper pennants and lanterns to define your space. Let your imagination run wild!
-
Love is in the air : Always on trend, embrace the bohemian spirit by harnessing the magic of the air: a subtle melody with pretty dreamcatchers, a barely audible rustle with colorful fabric ribbons, a soothing clink with flowery birdcages fluttering in the breeze. For a vintage feel, opt for delicate lace discs, macrame, or elegant antique frames. For a touch of glamour, dare to use tassels and diamond curtains—utterly romantic. For a simple yet elegant look, white balloons will make the green foliage stand out.
-
And there was light : A tip for a secular ceremony planned for nightfall or celebrated in winter: decorate your tree with a multitude of fairy lights. For an even more romantic feel, hang votive candle holders and lanterns liberally. The more there are, the more magical your ceremony will be.
-
Dare to be original : Hang a flowery swing from a beautiful branch (preferably sturdy 😉) for a small touch that is both unexpected and romantic.
